Christmas Card Photos: A Stress-Free Timeline for Texas Families

Every year a few families message me in early December hoping to get photos taken, edited, printed, and mailed before the holidays. Sometimes it works. Often it does not. Here is the timeline that actually works, counting backward from the mailbox.

Work backward from when cards need to arrive

Most families want cards landing during the first two weeks of December. Counting back from there:

• Cards mailed: late November into the first days of December
• Cards ordered: allow one to two weeks for printing and shipping, so mid-November
• Gallery delivered: a few days before you order, so early to mid-November
• Session photographed: late October through the first week of November
• Session booked: September or early October, before those dates are gone

The two places families get stuck

The first is booking too late and finding the good dates already taken. The second is underestimating card printing. Rush shipping in December is expensive and unreliable, and it is the step nobody plans for.

How to make the session itself easy

• Pick outfits a week ahead and hang them together so you can see the palette
• Feed everyone before we start, especially small kids
• Plan for one card image and let everything else be a bonus
• Arrive a few minutes early so nobody walks in flustered
